Our Guide (Mac) greeted us at Sentani airport, organized our travel permit/known as “surat jalan “and showed us in the beginning of our Papua-adventure the area around Sentani lake. Also he came to our desire and we could stay these first three days at the house of a lovely local family who are friends from Mac – directly at the lake.
After that we flew to Wamena and started with our 10 day trekking tour in the Yali region. 4 Porters, the cook “Othis” and Mac accompanied us on the journey through one of the most beautiful landscapes that we have ever seen. We passed one of the highest mountain in this region (Elit Mountain – 4.176 meter (NN)–youtube video) -crossed the jungle and a lot of little villages. We slept together with our team in local huts, but also it is possible for other tourist t o sleep alone in modern buildings there. One night we spent directly in the wild jungle under the stars where we slept just under a tarpaulin stretched. What a amazing experience. All the time we felt very safe and in the best hands of a wonderful team that had taken care of everything. Whether breakfast, lunch or dinner (B.L.D, if you need help or have a question all the time the whole team care lovingly about you.
We would like to say thanks a lot for all and that you gave us the chance to experience the amazing West-Papua with a wonderful guide, named Mac and his perfect stuff.
We wish you all the best and hope to see you all again soon.
Take care, your friends from Germany.

Paniai Lakes and N/W coast of West-Papua-Indonesia with friendly honest guide (Mac)who loves his country and promotes it well. Staying with local people. Visiting new areas. Mac was a good travel companion. I would travel with you again. I would suggest you constantly try to get as much accurate information about as many areas as you can. When I come I need as much information ie location of settlements, are there still people living in a traditional way etc so I can make informed decisions about where to try and visit. I wish you all the best and hope to see you again soon. I hope Mac has passed on my thanks to the family we stayed with in Nabire. They were lovely, kind people. God bless them.

What a wonderful experience, trekking with (Mac) through the pristine landscape of West-Papua! We were so glad that we came to know west-Papua with a local guide, who loves his country so much. Mac is definitely a guide we can recommend wholeheartedly! He knows so much to tell about West-Papua, know so many people on the way and is at the same time always keen to give you the best trekking experience possible. Together with his team of cooks and porters our days were full of joy and interesting surprises. A really awesome time. Thank you very much
In December 2009 I had a 10-days trekking with (Mac) from Wamena-(Yali tribe, west-Papua). I will never forget this great experience. We left the Baliem Valley towards east to reach the Yali area.
The landscape was amazing and the Mt. Elit a challenge.
Mac, I thank you very much my friend. And also thanks to “Mr. Broken”, the best porter I ever had. And our cook Otis is my favorite for the next pancake award. For everybody who read this website, I can Mac really high recommend!!! Mac, good luck for your company (Trek Papua Tours & Travel Ltd) all the best and many happy costumers! Maik Schmieding, Germany Hi Mac,I am the British guy traveling around with Juan, a Spanish guy. In September 2010 I have been traveling in South East of the Baliem valley, West-Papua – I actually live in Spain in the Canary Islands. We met your friend in the airport in Sentani but for one reason or other things didn’t quite work out, mainly because we had bank problems so it was easier for us to be near the city but thanks for trying to help us. Thanks also for the interesting and informative conversation- I hope everything is going well there!! Here everything is the same – back to the old routine of school. I work in the public system in the morning then in a private school in the afternoons preparing students for Cambridge exams. Hopefully we will be coming back to your beautiful Papua next year – I would love to do some voluntary work teaching English (Local Community development) in the villages but first I have to see how the year develops. I hope you, your family and friends are all well. Take care, IanHello Mac! Thank you for your interest and for sharing with us your good knowledge. According with your requirement: Ivan Sosa. Spain trekking 24-28th October 2010. We trekked mainly Dani tribes, around north Baliem Valley (Jiwika) and also towards the south, Kurima, Kilise and Syokoshimo The thing I liked it most, was the views and the people. I think many things can be improve, but if things change to be more tourist attraction, I t will lost his enchantments. I hope to be able to do a longer trekking around the area in a few years. Then we’ll keep in touch! Regards Ivan

To resume, i would recommend Dem’s team to trek, we had a wonderful time with him and now we have pictures in our mind we will never forget. we could share with the local people, thing that we can not do without his help.

In august 2010 Mac has been our guide for 10 days through Wamena, Baliem Valley and Sentani Lake. We organized everything via email and Mac has always been very professional and helpful in order to met our needs. We arrived in late of two days (..Because of our overconfidence in flight schedule…) and Mac waited for us, shifting the program. During our trip he has always been very so kind and friendly.
We really enjoyed our trip in the Baliem Valley, loved the landscape, the bath that we have had in Baliem river, and all the people that we have met during our long walking up and the down in the pristine valley. We had trekked until reaching Dani people and lived with them for some days and ate the special food cooked by Mr. Broken! (Super cook and great human being).
After the trekking we moved to Sentani Lake and enjoyed the experience of living with Mr Ari, a friend of Mac, in a real Papuan home with a beautiful family, and tasted the original Papeda!
We really would recommend Mac as a guide in his fascinating country, and say thanks to all his staff and to Speedy (for having showed me which one was the strange plant!)
We hope to see you soon for the next trip, Carstensz and Foja Mountains are waiting for us!!
Wah Wah Wah!
In Januari 2011, I did a 9 days trekking tour to Yali region with Mac and his team. It was great! Also the food was very good during this trek.
After the trek I also did with Mac some day tours around Wamena (mumies, some villages, waterfall,…). Also very nice….

Zij leven in harmonie.

Through e-mail we arranged a trek with Demianus (Mac) in Wamena. He picked us up at Wamena airport and walked as to a really nice cozy guesthouse/hotel owned by an NGO supporting the Papuan community. This was the start of a great experience, perhaps the greatest in our Papua Trip. The plan was to do a 2 day and 1 night trip but Mac was so nice to already take us around in Wamena on the day before the planned trip. He showed us an old mummy and we did a short hike not far from Wamena. We also bought some shopping for the trek the next day. We were going to go the Baliem river, cross it and walk for a few hours to a village not connected by road or electricity, very special. We cooked and ate with a local family in a traditional kitchen and slept in a ‘hut’. The next day we had an early breakfast and coffee and started hiking back towards to Baliem river along a different path. We reached an ice cold mineral water spring were we washed and filled our bottles. All the time we met local villagers who greeted us a good morning and shook our hands. We only had a short time in Wamena and therefore the trek was relatively short, but Mac planned everything into a great 3 days of our holiday and we enjoyed every minute of it. Mac is a great guy and we were friends since we met. His English is great and he speaks the local languages as well as he is from the Baliem valley. I also really appreciate that all the money business is arranged in the beginning with a contract and no surprises afterwards. I definitely recommend him and if I am ever going back to Papua (perhaps to visit the Raja Ampat islands) I will contact Mac for sure. Greetings from Thailand, Niki & Neung
